A local maker of hummus is expanding to East Ashveville.

Roots Hummus is building a much larger facility next to Highland Brewing Co. The space was once occupied by the Blue Ridge Motion Pictures complex.

Roots Hummus founder Matt Parris said the company will open the space to give visitors tours.

“This hallway up here overlooks all of the production rooms, and, at the end of the hallway, you go downstairs and you can see the packaging part of it, where it gets into the containers and the boxes and the pallets and out the door,” Parris said.

Roots Hummus has been operating out of a 1,200-square-foot kitchen since 2007. The new space is more than 40,000-square-feet
